This painting by Leighton was our wedding invitation

I visited Seattle to participate in an interview for the Who We Are Project with Jeffery Robinson. I strongly recommend watching this documentary on Amazon; it’s not expensive ($4 to rent) and is so well-done. Participating in the upcoming podcast series was an honor, and I’ll share more when this is released.

Jeffery Robinson is the founder and chief executive officer of The Who We Are Project, which aims to become a central voice in correcting the narrative about our shared history of anti-Black racism in the United States.

This was also an especially meaningful conversation to me as a survivor of Christian Patriarchy. The underpinning of white supremacy doesn’t come up often in interviews that would prefer to focus on the Handmaid-esque relationship aspect, the theocratic aspirations of Christian Nationalist leadership, or trad wife reality. But the racial throughline is in my book, and I’ve sought out opportunities to raise the topic in interviews.

My devout, patriarchal husband was not just a flat-earther and holocaust denier. He was a wannabe Klansman. How did I find out, and what did that look like? This part of the story didn’t come through in the Who We Are interview (because we talked around the specifics in more general terms of the movement itself), so I’m going to share it in more depth here. I think it’s important to understand how integral white supremacy is to the Christian Nationalist and trad life movement.
