It Ends With Us Only If We Protect Divorce Rights From Men Like JD Vance
What a paperback romance, a misbegotten elegy, and a memoir about domestic abuse have in common.
Hi readers,
I can’t believe A Well-Trained Wife has already been out for two weeks. The response has been amazing (so many positive reviews!) and also surprising (stories and memories out of the woodwork!) I’m grateful, healing, and awe-struck.
The following post includes some of my processing post-book-release. With domestic abuse in the box office (It Ends With Us) and No-Fault Divorce on the conservatives’ chopping block, the national conversation around marriage, roles, rules, agency, and choice remains complex—even about things we might have thought we settled long ago, like “leaving abusive marriages is good.” That Vance, Hoover, and myself are on the NYT’s Bestseller List with stories on theme feels eerie and relevant.
