Pre-election energy for Kamala Harris surged so consistently that in the final weeks, even the most dubious suggested on social media, “I think she can do it. I think she can win.” In the final week, the campaign hit a fever pitch: women in Trumper marriages confessed their secret votes. The media was both shocked and appalled: so many women were so scared to vote their conscience in 2024 that they had to keep it a secret. What bravery, they said.

We know what happened next. Donald Trump's campaign won the electoral votes through a collection of causes, mistakes, misfires, protest votes, vote swaps, third-party splits, and corruption. Harris conceded. The majority of the country grieved. And almost immediately, the interpersonal disparity began. I still can’t believe what my “friends” said.
